Yo-Yo Weight Loss - Cut the String with Hypnosis

People who have been on the weight loss yo-yo know the routine. Weight goes down, weight goes up. The question is, does losing extra pounds permanently have to do with control or belief? The factual answer to that question really depends on the person involved, yet, for a substantial part of the population, belief holds greater pull in weight management than does control. The reason for this is that belief is rooted in the subconscious mind and control is an exercise of the conscious mind. If you have been struggling with weight, this article will provide you with needed insight for managing weight using your mind.

No doubt you have heard it said that we only use 10% of our mind. That statement is quite untrue, yet widely believed. In fact, the more accurate way of describing the usage of the mind is 10% conscious, and 90% subconscious, which means we use 100% of our minds. If you wonder why you do things you don't want to do, or feel ways that don't make logical sense, these are a result of subconscious beliefs. I use the word beliefs rather than thoughts, because the subconscious mind does not think in the same manner as the conscious mind. The subconscious mind does not rationalize, it does not utilize logic, it does not compare statement A to statement B and determine which is true. It accepts information it repeatedly receives non-critically as a fact. Therefore it is very important to always refer to yourself in terms that you decide are your best reality, because whatever way you refer to yourself repeatedly, your subconscious mind will make into your reality, for better or worse.

Yo-Yo Effect

If you have been struggling with weight loss for a long time you are sure to recognize the Yo-Yo effect. You achieve some weight loss, are pleased with what you have accomplished, perhaps bought some new clothes, had others compliment you, and felt good. Then somehow it goes right back up to where it was, or worse, even higher. You wonder what happened. You might feel dejected, powerless, or in some way like you just can't do it. You put a lot of effort into your accomplishment and it just reverted back to your starting point! Argh!

The Yo-Yo scenario is sadly quite common, but it does not need to be for those who realize the mechanics of why it works the way it does. The first phase of the Yo-Yo, when weight goes down, there was conscious effort (the 10% of the mind). Unless the subconscious mind (the other 90%) is involved in the weight management equation, then just as a Yo-Yo goes back up, so does the weight.

Cut the Yo-Yo String

Remember that the subconscious mind does not think or rationalize the way the conscious mind does. It does not share the will or determination of the conscious mind. It merely acts, and it acts on what it believes to be true based on the information it is given repeatedly. So be kind and affirming with what you say to yourself, silently and out loud. Tell yourself that you deserve to be Thin, Trim, and Healthy. Tell yourself that you are becoming thinner, rather than you will become thinner. Keep it positive, and in the present tense.

If you notice yourself reinforcing something not helpful to your goal of losing weight, such as moaning in appreciation of a mint-chocolate sundae, then immediately act indifferent to it. Act like you just don't care about it at all. Soon enough, you really will not care, and before long, your positive self-talk and reinforcing affirmations will begin to take root in your subconscious mind. You may find it easier to use the services of a qualified hypnotherapist or utilize a hypnotic CD designed just for subconscious weight control. Either way, be good to yourself, say reinforcing affirmations to yourself, and soon, you will break the Yo-Yo cycle.
